ABOUT

Jesse Ellis (he/him) is an interdisciplinary artist specializing in film, illustration, and writing. He is passionate about stories that explore human connection, diverse voices, and the plausible fantasies of our culture and imaginations.

Art was always an inherent part of Jesse’s life as a kid with an imagination the size of a small continent. From the time he mastered his fine motor skills he was doodling and creating worlds in his head. He began writing stories from the time he was 11-years-old and started taking art seriously in middle school. He was introduced to film for the first time as a sophomore at Brookline High School in Brookline, Massachusetts, taking a digital-filmmaking class that changed the way he thought about storytelling. He continued studying film throughout the remainder of high school (while spearheading a modestly successful film club).

After a decade of building a career in administration and operations, Jesse felt the absence of creativity in his life and revisited an old passion. He completed a BFA in Digital Filmmaking from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. He has written, directed, and produced a number of short films, as well as serving as other key roles such as 1st  Assistant Director, Script Supervisor, and Assistant Camera.

In addition to freelance and independent projects, Jesse currently works in programming for the Office for the Arts at Harvard University.

In his spare time, Jesse is passionate about plants, building terrariums, rockhounding, and cooking. He has also recently begun an interest in songwriting and has a number of lyrics available to view on Songbay

His favorite films include The Secret of Roan Inish (1994), Arrival (2016), and Clue (1985).
